OPPORTUNITIES: Grant Writer Position Available at The Food Project
Who We Are: The Food Project is an organization committed to youth development through local farming. The Food Project grows and distributes healthy food for residents in and around Boston, including distribution of food to lower-income individuals, while also offering leadership opportunities to youth from diverse backgrounds. By training teens to grow food and care for the land, The Food Project has become a national model for engaging young people in local farming while also helping them become leaders within their communities.
What We Seek: We seek a talented, motivated individual to be a key member of our Development staff. The successful candidate will prepare proposals, contracts, letters of inquiry, etc., for new and existing foundations. We are looking for an individual who can not only maintain and strengthen current funding relationships, but also help us initiate significant new relationships with national foundations.
Position Summary: Under the direction of the Director of Development, the Grant Writer will manage relationships with existing funders, while forging relationships with new funders. Specifically, he/she will:
- Ensure the timely production of high quality grants, letters of inquiry, progress reports, thank you letters, and other required correspondence. This includes circulating draft proposals and obtaining internal approvals in a timely manner to meet submittal deadlines.
- Secure all necessary budgets, attachments, letters of commitment and other documentation to accompany funding proposals.
- Take responsibility for prospect research, strategic planning for next steps with key funders, and arranging visits and events as appropriate to connect funders to The Food Project’s work.
- Coordinate with program staff in the building of grant requests and result reporting to funders.
- With support from the Director of Development, the Grant Writer will be primarily responsible for raising a significant portion of The Food Project’s annual income (currently approximately 50%). This is an exciting opportunity to join a high performance development team within a top notch nonprofit, which has established a national reputation for excellence in the youth development and food system movements.
Required Skills:
- B.A. or equivalent life experience
- Excellent writing, editing, and research skills
- Excellent interpersonal, networking, and communication skills
- At least two years experience in grant writing and/or institutional funding or comparable professional experience
- Ability to work well independently as well as part of team
- Capable of working in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment and meeting strict deadlines
- Detail-oriented self-starter
Compensation:
This is a fulltime position, competitive salary offered based on experience.
