OPPORTUNITIES: Apply to be a Service-Learning TA fall 2008 and/or spring 2009 -- Deadline March 24, 2008
The Service-Learning Teaching Assistant's (S-LTA's) collaborate with faculty, community partners and peers to apply the best practices to their utilization of service-learning, and work to ensure both learning and service goals are met by, identifying appropriate community partnerships for the course; establishing service experiences that match the course learning objectives;
matching students with those projects, and monitor student service hours and activities; enhancing and maintaining the community partnerships; co-facilitating reflection discussions and exercises; and
regularly assessing and evaluating the experiences and partnerships.
Students Applicants must be able to, participate in trainings and course preparation starting in the beginning of August through December for the fall, or the beginning of December through April for the spring. dedicate approximately 10 hours a week to the role, including, attending the assigned S-L course, holding weekly office hours, participating in biweekly S-L TA reflection sessions, and meeting with your faculty member or community partners.
Student Compensation Options includea $700 stipend OR Federal Work-Study (if applicable)and a $1000 Education Award through AmeriCorps Student Leaders in Service Program, if available (students must be a US Citizens or Permanent US Resident in order to meet AmeriCorps requirements and take advantage of this benefit.
