Training On Data Tools and Sources
At the School of Public Policy and Urban Affairs we believe that effective public policy should be informed and based on accurate analysis and understanding of hard data. A key objective of the Policy School is to increase awareness about great sources of data and provide training on innovative tools for organizing and visually presenting data in compelling ways that deepen understanding.
Data Day 2009
On July 15th, we hosted, along with the Metropolitan Area Planning Council and the Boston Foundation, Data Day 2009, a free one-day conference on using data and technology to drive community change.Data Day is a biennial conference to help communities expand their capacity to use data to advance their goals. At Data Day, nonprofit organizations, civic institutions and municipalities come together to see the latest in technology and tools and learn how other groups are using data to support and advance constructive change. It is structured around a series of "how to" interactive workshops in which people who work with data will explain what they do, where they find useful data, and how they use it.
Data Toolkit Workshop Series
In addition to hosting the biennial Data Day conference along with MAPC, the Policy School is launching a new program: the Data Toolkit Workshop Series. Each month we will provide a workshop highlighting a few innovative tools for data analysis and presentation, along with tips on great data sources.
